About Arabis caucasica Willd.
Arabis caucasica Willd. is an evergreen perennial herb that reaches up to 1 foot (0.30 meters) tall and 1.5 feet (0.46 meters) wide. It blooms in early spring and bears white petals. This plant is native to Crimea, Turkey, Iran, the Caucasus, and the Mediterranean region, where it grows in limestone rock crevices, alongside streams, and in alpine meadows. In cultivation, it is hardy in USDA zones 4 through 9 and is not damaged by frost. It is a popular ornamental garden plant valued for its early flowering; one known cultivar is the pink-flowered 'Compinkie'. Under its commonly proposed synonym Arabis alpina subsp. caucasica, the cultivars 'Flore Pleno' and 'Schneehaube' have received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
