About Aquiloeurycea cephalica (Cope, 1865)

Aquiloeurycea cephalica, first described by Cope in 1865, is a species of salamander belonging to the family Plethodontidae. This species is endemic to central Mexico, and is recognized as a species complex. Members of Aquiloeurycea cephalica live in pine, pine-oak, fir, and cloud forests, as well as the upper portion of lowland forest. Individuals are commonly found under rocks, logs, and other types of ground debris. The species can tolerate a degree of habitat modification, and it is also found at forest edges, in rural gardens, and in small patches of forest within urban areas. Currently, Aquiloeurycea cephalica is threatened by habitat loss.
