About Aquilegia einseleana F.W.Schultz
Aquilegia einseleana F.W.Schultz is a columbine species that reaches a height of 15 to 40 cm (5.9 to 15.7 in). It produces 1 to 3, rarely up to 6, nodding blue-violet flowers that measure 2.5 to 4.0 cm (0.98 to 1.57 in) across. Each flower has straight or slightly incurved spurs that are roughly 9 mm (0.35 in) long. This species is native to the central and eastern Alps, occurring in Slovenia, Bavaria (Germany), multiple regions of Italy including Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Lombardy, Trentino-Alto Adige/Südtirol, and Veneto, as well as Austria. It grows in grassy, rocky limestone habitats at altitudes between 600 and 1,800 m (2,000 and 5,900 ft), within montane to subalpine zones. Aquilegia einseleana flowers from June to July, and is pollinated by bumblebees.
