About Aquarius najas (De Geer, 1773)
Aquarius najas, commonly called the river skater, is a European species of water strider. Its scientific name was originally published as Gerris najas by De Geer in 1773. In 1990, the former subgenus Aquarius was raised to full genus rank based on phylogenetic analysis, leading to its current accepted name Aquarius najas. This species typically requires moving water, and inhabits areas such as the stony margins of rivers.
