About Apus affinis (J.E.Gray, 1830)

Little swifts (scientific name Apus affinis (J.E.Gray, 1830)) are easily identified by their small size. Their wingspan measures only 33 cm, while the common swift has a wingspan of 42 cm. Their plumage is black, with the exception of a white throat and white rump; the white rump patch extends onto the flanks. They have a short square tail, and all their rectrices have round tips. Their flight is fluttering, similar to that of a house martin, and their call is a high twittering. Like other swifts, little swifts have very short legs. Their legs are only used for clinging to vertical surfaces.
