About Aporrhais pespelecani (Linnaeus, 1758)

Aporrhais pespelecani, commonly known as the "pelican's foot", or more precisely "common pelican's foot" to distinguish it from other species in the same genus, is a species of sea snail. It is a marine gastropod mollusk that belongs to the family Aporrhaidae. Until the early 20th century, this species' scientific name was usually hyphenated and spelled "pes-pelicani". This snail is found in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean, ranging from Norway to the Mediterranean Sea, and also occurs in the Black Sea. This sea snail species lives below the low tide level, within the sublittoral zone at depths between 10 and 130 meters, on substrates of mud or muddy sand. Empty shells of this species are occasionally washed ashore onto beaches.
