About Aporrectodea caliginosa (Savigny, 1826)

Aporrectodea caliginosa, also called Allolobophora similis or the grey worm, is an earthworm that is commonly found in Great Britain. It can be recognized by three distinct color shades on its front end, and reaches 6 centimetres (2.4 inches) in length when at rest. The clitellum (saddle) usually has a two-humped ridge spanning three segments of the body, but this feature is not clearly visible. This worm mostly lives in non-permanent horizontal burrows within topsoil, and is rarely found in leaf litter. Just like most earthworms, its diet consists solely of soil.
