About Aplysia elongata (Pease, 1860)
This species is known scientifically as Aplysia elongata (Pease, 1860). Adults of this species reach a maximum length of 5 centimeters. The body of the animal is oblong in shape with a smooth surface. Its back is highly elevated, which gives the body a slightly compressed overall appearance. The mantle-lobes are strongly expanded, have undulated edges, and are free along nearly their entire dorsal length. The dorsal tentacles are quite slender and ear-shaped, while the anterior pair of tentacles are large and expanded. The foot is narrow, and ends in a posterior point that extends out past the back. The body color ranges from darker to lighter brown, with the darkest color found on the top of the head and neck. The entire dorsal region is clouded and covered with tiny white speckles. A shell is clearly visible within the living animal, and it is covered by a thin, translucent membrane. This species is found in waters off the coast of Hawaii.
