Scientific name: Aplexa hypnorum (Linnaeus, 1758)

The shell of Aplexa hypnorum is translucent, pale brownish in color, elongate in shape, with a high spire and a narrow aperture. It reaches a maximum length of approximately 13 mm. Unlike the pale shell, the animal’s soft body parts are black or dark grey. Its tentacles are long and narrow. This species has been recorded in Belgium, the British Isles, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Denmark, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, and Poland. It lives in very shallow ponds and ditches, most often in sites that dry out periodically.
