About Aphelodoris luctuosa (Cheeseman, 1882)

Aphelodoris luctuosa (Cheeseman, 1882) is a species of sea slug. It is classified as a dorid nudibranch, a type of shell-less marine gastropod mollusk that belongs to the family Dorididae. This species is endemic to the waters around New Zealand. It should not be confused with a different organism that was previously named Aphelodoris luctuosa by Bergh in 1905. Due to homonymy (two different species sharing the same scientific name), this 1905 name was replaced, and the species is now known as Aphelodoris berghi Odhner, 1924.
