About Anyphaena accentuata (Walckenaer, 1802)

This species, Anyphaena accentuata, displays sexual dimorphism in body size: female specimens have a body length ranging between 5 and 9 millimeters, while male specimens range between 4 and 7 millimeters. Its geographic range extends from Europe to Central Asia. This spider lives on trees, conifers, and shrubs. During the day, individuals hide in woven tubes they create, and they hunt during the night. They can also be found inside human houses and apartments. A study of lowland forests in the Czech Republic found that A. accentuata often overwinters in bird nesting boxes. They remain active over winter, and unlike many other species, they do not build web nests. During warmer seasons, they dwell on bark and tree trunks.
