About Antispila nyssaefoliella Clemens, 1860

Antispila nyssaefoliella, commonly called the tupelo leafminer moth, is a moth species belonging to the Heliozelidae family. This species is found in southeastern North America. It has a wingspan of approximately 8 mm. Adult moths are active and on the wing during spring. The larvae of this moth feed on Nyssa sylvatica, and mine the leaves of this host plant. A 2008 observation by Low confirmed that the larvae can produce sound using sclerotized structures located on their dorsum and tail. Larvae of this species can be found from late August to early September.
