About Antiscopa epicomia Meyrick, 1885
Antiscopa epicomia (Meyrick, 1885) has a wingspan of 18–19 mm. The forewings are mostly pale light ochreous grey, while the basal third is reddish-ochreous brown. The hindwings are pale whitish grey, with a light grey lunule, postmedian line and submarginal band. This species varies in size, as well as in the color and intensity of its markings. Specimens collected in the north of New Zealand tend to have brighter markings than those from the south. A. epicomia is superficially very similar to S. fimbriata, but S. fimbriata can be distinguished by the antennal pectinations found on males of the species. A. epicomia is endemic to New Zealand, and occurs across the whole country including Auckland Island, Campbell Island and the Kermadec Islands. It has been observed at altitudes ranging from sea level to 1150m. This species lives in native forest, and has also been found in damp, shaded forest ravines.
