About Anthurium schlechtendalii Kunth
Anthurium schlechtendalii Kunth is a large herbaceous plant species in the genus Anthurium. It can be found growing from Mexico to Costa Rica, and is recorded as originating from Peru, Mexico, Bolivia, and Brazil. It grows in wet forests, rocky hillsides, or outcrops on trees. This species has white aerial roots, dark green leaves, a dark purple bract, and a long, slender brown spadix that grows to approximately 70 centimetres (28 inches) long. The spadix produces small flowers; after fertilization, these flowers develop into ripe fruits that look like small red berries. The genus name Anthurium comes from classical Greek, and translates to 'tail flower.' The genus Anthurium contains around 500 total species; some species in the genus are used for medicinal purposes, while others are grown as ornamentals.
