The violet-spotted anemone, Anthostella stephensoni Carlgren, 1938, is a medium-sized sea anemone that can reach up to 12 centimeters in diameter. It has a smooth yellow column covered with randomly distributed bright violet spots. Scarlet lines extend outward from its mouth toward its 48 short, blunt tentacles. Usually, two violet spots are present on either side of the mouth. This anemone is only found along the southern African coast, ranging from Luderitz to Richards Bay. It lives in waters between the low tide mark and at least 18 meters deep.
