About Anthonomus rubi L.Bedel, 1887

Scientific name: Anthonomus rubi L.Bedel, 1887

Ecology and description: Adult Anthonomus rubi measure 2โ€“4 mm (0.079โ€“0.157 in) in length. They are dull black in color, and covered in fine grey pubescence. Fully grown larvae are 3โ€“3.5 mm (0.12โ€“0.14 in) long, with a curved body shape; they are white with a brown head. Adult A. rubi feed on strawberry foliage. Females lay a single egg inside each unopened strawberry flower bud, after which they partially or completely cut through the bud stalk. Larvae develop inside the severed flower buds, feeding on the wilting plant tissue.
