About Anthia thoracica (Thunberg, 1784)
Anthia thoracica (Thunberg, 1784) reaches an adult body length of approximately 47–53 millimeters, or 1.9–2.1 inches. Its body is entirely black. Each lateral extension of the pronotum has an ovate patch of yellowish setae, and the lateral margins of the elytra bear a band of whitish reclinate setae. In males of the species, mandibles are both strong and elongate. The pronotum has broad lateral flanges, while the ovate elytra are smooth and marked with eight linear striae. This species occurs in Namibia, Tanzania, and South Africa.
