About Anthela varia (Walker, 1855)

Anthela varia, commonly known as the variable anthelid, is a moth species belonging to the family Anthelidae. Francis Walker first described this species in 1855. It is distributed across coastal regions of southern Western Australia, southern Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria. Female individuals can have a wingspan that reaches up to 90 mm. Its larvae are commonly called hairy mary caterpillars, and they feed on species from the genera Macadamia (specifically Macadamia integrifolia), Eucalyptus, Grevillea, and Stenocarpus.
