About Antanartia dimorphica Howarth, 1966

Antanartia dimorphica Howarth, 1966, also known by the common names northern short-tailed admiral and dimorphic admiral, is a butterfly classified in the family Nymphalidae. This species is found in Africa. Males of this species have a wingspan of 45 mm, while females have a wingspan ranging from 42 to 48 mm. It produces two or three flight periods each year, with its peak flight activity occurring between April and May. Its larvae feed on Laportia peduncularis, species from the Drogueria genus, and species from the Carduus genus. Traditionally, this species was treated as a member of the genus Antanartia, but recent molecular analyses show it is more closely related to members of the genus Vanessa.
