About Anstenoptilia marmarodactyla (Dyar, 1902)
Anstenoptilia marmarodactyla is a moth species that belongs to the Pterophoridae family. Its native range stretches from California and Arizona in the United States, south through Mexico, to Costa Rica. It is an introduced species in Hawaii. Harrison Gray Dyar Jr. originally described this species in 1902 under the name Platyptilia marmarodactyla. In 1958, Zimmerman transferred the species to the newly created genus Anstenoptilia, but misspelled its species epithet as Anstenoptilia marmorodactyla. This misspelling has since been repeated in multiple later publications. The wingspan of adult Anstenoptilia marmarodactyla measures 16 to 18 mm. In Central America, adults are active on the wing during May and September; in the Nearctic realm, adults fly from July to November. The larvae of this moth feed on plants from the genera Ageratum, Salvia, Agastache, Mentha, Pycnanthemum, Monardella, Scrophularia and Lantana.
