About Anous tenuirostris (Temminck, 1823)

This species, commonly called the lesser noddy, has the scientific name Anous tenuirostris (Temminck, 1823). Adults measure 30โ€“34 cm (12โ€“13 in) in length, with a wingspan ranging from 58โ€“65 cm (23โ€“25 in), and weigh between 97โ€“120 g (3.4โ€“4.2 oz). The lesser noddy's plumage is brownish black, and its forehead and crown are a lighter shade than the rest of its body. Compared to the similar-looking black noddy, the lesser noddy is smaller, slightly paler overall, and has pale lores instead of dark lores. In ecological observations on Fregate Island in the Seychelles, giant tortoises have been seen hunting this bird.
