About Anoplognathus prasinus (Castelnau, 1840)
Anoplognathus prasinus, commonly called the green Christmas beetle, is a scarab beetle in the family Scarabaeidae that is native to eastern Australia. Francis de Laporte de Castelnau first described this species in 1840 under the original name Paranonca prasina. In 1873, Lansberge moved the species to the genus Anoplognathus, giving it its current scientific name. The entire body of this species is apple green, with translucent red-yellow edges along its head, clypeofrontal suture, and pronotum. Its abdomen is brown-green, its coxae and legs are yellow-green, and its tarsi are red-brown. Adult males measure 18 to 20 millimeters in length, while adult females measure 21 to 22 millimeters in length.
