About Anoplodesmus saussurii (Humbert, 1865)
Anoplodesmus saussurii (Humbert, 1865) individuals measure approximately 21–33 mm in length. Adult individuals are shiny, and range in color from dark brown to black. This is a highly gregarious species that can be found under decaying litter layers in agricultural areas, horticultural areas, and forests that have humid soils. This species is mainly herbivorous. It is known to feed on all types of decaying and rotting leaves, vegetable parts, and wood; it will also consume decaying fish and cow dung. After 20 to 25 days following copulation, females lay 200 to 400 eggs inside earthen nests. A single female may lay 2 to 4 separate egg masses over the course of her lifetime. After undergoing seven moults, the immature stadia emerge onto the surface once the rainy season begins.
