About Anolis garmani Stejneger, 1899
Anolis garmani Stejneger, 1899, commonly known as the Jamaican giant anole, is by far the largest species in the Norops group. Adult males have a snout–vent length (SVL) of 10–13.1 cm (3.9–5.2 in), while females measure 8–9.5 cm (3.1–3.7 in) in snout–vent length. Including the tail, adults generally reach 20–30 cm (7.9–11.8 in) in total length, with a maximum reported total length of 36.8 cm (14 in). Although typically green in color, the Jamaican giant anole turns dark brown at night. Males have a dewlap with an orange center and yellow outer coloration; the female's dewlap is small and dusky in color. This species is native to Jamaica, and has been introduced into Florida. Recent records document its presence on Grand Cayman, but it remains unclear if the species has become established there. Its preferred natural habitat is forest at altitudes ranging from sea level to 1,300 m (4,300 ft), but it can also be found living on large trees in gardens. Anolis garmani is oviparous.
