About Anolis biporcatus (Wiegmann, 1834)

Anolis biporcatus (Wiegmann, 1834), commonly called the neotropical green anole or giant green anole, is a species of anole. This species occurs in both disturbed and undisturbed forests across Mexico, Central America, Colombia, and Venezuela. In 2017, more southern populations located in southwestern Colombia and western Ecuador were reclassified as a separate distinct species, A. parvauritus. As its common names indicate, the neotropical green anole/giant green anole is mostly green in color and relatively large, ranking among the largest anole species found on the American mainland. Males of this species have a snout–vent length of approximately 7.0–10.3 cm (2.8–4.1 in), while females grow slightly larger, with a snout–vent length of about 7.0–10.8 cm (2.8–4.3 in). Overall, this species shows very little sexual dimorphism. The tail of Anolis biporcatus is roughly twice as long as its snout-to-vent length.
