About Anolis apletophallus Köhler & Sunyer, 2008

Anolis apletophallus is a relatively small mainland anole species. Adults reach 40–45 mm in snout-to-vent length, and have dewlaps that are large compared to their overall body size. This species shows dewlap polymorphism: some populations have entirely orange dewlaps, others have white dewlaps with an orange dot at the base, and some populations contain both of these dewlap morphs. No genetic differences have been detected between individuals that have different dewlap morphs. This species has a short lifespan, with a 9-month generation time, which makes it an annual species. Adult individuals reach sexual maturity in approximately 4–6 months. Anolis apletophallus is a mainland species native to Panama, and it may also occur in Colombia.
