About Anolis aeneus Gray, 1840

Anolis aeneus, commonly known as the Grenada bush anole or bronze anole, is a species of anole lizard that occurs in the Caribbean Lesser Antilles and South America. Its native distribution includes Grenada and all of the Grenadines islands, and it has been introduced to Trinidad and Tobago. Non-native, locally abundant populations of this species also exist on the South American mainland in Guyana. Males of this species reach 77 millimeters in snout-to-vent length. The dorsal surface of Anolis aeneus can be pale gray, olive, or chocolate-brown, and is patterned with mottling or fine speckles. The ventral surface is pale, and often has dark mottling along the sides. The dewlap is white or dull green, with a yellow or orange spot near its front edge. Females are brown, with a middorsal stripe or ladder-like marking, and a light stripe along the flank. This species has been the subject of many studies focused on the behavior and ecological strategies of Anolis lizard species.
