About Anisacanthus quadrifidus (Vahl) Standl.
Anisacanthus quadrifidus (Vahl) Standl. is a species of flowering plant. Its native range covers west and south-central Texas in the United States, as well as adjacent northern Mexico extending south to the state of Oaxaca. This plant has become an increasingly common ornamental shrub within Texas, and it is also cultivated in other areas of the Southwestern United States. In the wild, Anisacanthus quadrifidus grows on rocky dry slopes, in grasslands, xerophytic scrub, and Mexican pinyon forests. It also occurs frequently along crop banks and in sloped arid regions, growing at elevations between 1,500 and 2,450 meters (4,920 to 8,040 feet) above sea level. When cultivated, it adapts well to a variety of different soils, but it has very low tolerance to frost.
