About Anigozanthos humilis Lindl.

Anigozanthos humilis Lindl. grows from an underground rhizome, producing a basal rosette of long, strap-shaped leaves at the soil surface. A raceme of flowers develops at the end of long stalks, bringing the plant's total height up to 1 metre; it typically reaches 0.4 to 1 metre in height and 0.3 to 0.6 metres across. Its tuberous flower buds are yellow, shifting to orange before turning red when the flower opens. This species is widely cultivated. It tolerates hot and humid climates, but needs winter protection in temperate regions, and thrives in sunny positions with well-drained soil. It has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
