About Anguispira strongylodes (Reeve, 1854)

Anguispira strongylodes, commonly called the southeastern tigersnail, is a species of pulmonate land snail belonging to the Discidae family, also known as the disk snails. This snail has a wide distribution across fifteen US states. Its range stretches from Texas in the west to North Carolina in the east, and from Florida in the south to Illinois in the north. It is presumed extirpated from Virginia, and is classified as imperiled in North Carolina and West Virginia. The southeastern tigersnail is most often found in high-elevation hardwood forests, especially in late-successional oak-cedar forests. It associates with limestone outcrops located on steep hillsides or slopes next to rivers. Individuals can be found on or around rock formations, or within leaf litter, and they prefer neutral soils.
