About Anemone oregana A.Gray
Anemone oregana A.Gray is a perennial herb that grows from a thick rhizome. It typically reaches 50–300 mm (2–12 inches) in height, and may exceptionally grow to 350 mm (14 inches) tall. One single basal leaf, made up of three large leaflets attached to a 40–200 mm (2–8 inch) petiole, may be present on the plant. Its inflorescence is made up of one tier of three leaflike bracts and a single flower. When a basal leaf is present, the bracts closely resemble this basal leaf. The terminal leaflet may grow on its own petiole or attach directly to the plant without a petiole (sessile). The margin of the terminal leaflet has sharp teeth along its distal half or third, and has a pointed tip. Lateral leaflets may each grow a single lobe. The flower has no true petals; instead, it has 5 to 7 petal-like sepals that can come in several colors. Sepals are most commonly blue or purple, but may also be reddish, pink, white, or bicolored. Up to 75 thin stamens are located in the center of the flower. The fruit produced is a cluster of achenes.
