About Anemonastrum deltoideum (Douglas) Mosyakin
Anemonastrum deltoideum (Douglas) Mosyakin, commonly called Columbian windflower and western white anemone, is a flowering plant species belonging to the buttercup family Ranunculaceae. It is native to forest habitats along the west coast of the United States. This species is a rhizomatous perennial herb that reaches 10 to 30 centimeters in height. It typically produces a single basal leaf, divided into three large toothed leaflets that each grow up to 6 centimeters long. Additional leaves similar in appearance to the basal leaf’s leaflets may grow along its mostly bare stem. The inflorescence bears three leaf-like bracts and one single flower. The flower does not have true petals; instead it has five petal-shaped white sepals that measure 1 to 2 centimeters long each. It holds up to 120 thin whiskery stamens and numerous pistils. Its fruit forms as a cluster of spherical achenes.
