About Anemanthele lessoniana (Steud.) Veldkamp
Anemanthele is a genus of plants belonging to the grass family that is native to New Zealand. The only known species in this genus is Anemanthele lessoniana, which is commonly known by three common names: gossamer grass, New Zealand wind grass, and pheasant's tail grass. While this grass is naturally rare in the wild, it is widely cultivated as an attractive ornamental garden plant. It grows marginally in USDA hardiness zone 8; it becomes dormant and deciduous during cold winters, but is typically evergreen to semi-evergreen in other conditions. In USDA zone 8, it produces arching green foliage that reaches up to 3 feet tall, with orange, copper, and gold highlights that appear especially when grown in drier soils. This plant has been awarded the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
