About Androsace occidentalis Pursh

Androsace occidentalis Pursh is a small annual herb that grows to a maximum height of around 7 centimeters. It develops from a basal rosette of oblong, hairy leaves that are no longer than one or two centimeters. It produces an upright inflorescence that takes the form of an umbel, sitting atop a thin, leafless peduncle. The umbel holds 5 to 10 very small flowers, each borne on a pedicel that can reach up to 3 centimeters in length. Each flower has a white or pinkish five-lobed corolla, which sits inside a cup-shaped structure of pointed reddish sepals.
