About Androctonus crassicauda (Olivier, 1807)

Androctonus crassicauda is a generalist Old World scorpion species that inhabits deserts. Adult individuals vary in coloration, ranging from light brown and reddish to blackish-brown and solid black. They can reach lengths of over 10 centimetres (3.9 inches). This species is primarily distributed across the Palaearctic region, occurring in Turkey, Iran, and other southwestern Asian countries. It occupies arid and semi-arid desert margins, and can sometimes be found in areas of accumulated vegetation debris. It also commonly lives within the ruins of old, neglected structures. During the Persian Gulf conflict, A. crassicauda was considered a potential hazard for troops. Despite this, the species is unaggressive, and there were no reported stings from this species to troops during the conflict.
