About Andrena erythronii Robertson, 1891
Andrena erythronii, described by Robertson in 1891, is a species of miner bee native to eastern North America. It is commonly called the trout lily miner bee or trout lily bee, a common name that comes from its close association with trout lilies, which are flowering plants in the genus Erythronium. This bee has been observed visiting the flowers of other spring ephemerals besides trout lilies, including spring beauty of the genus Claytonia, hepatica of the genus Hepatica, and harbinger-of-spring (Erigenia bulbosa). It also visits the flowers of spring-flowering shrubs and trees: serviceberry (Amelanchier), plum and cherry (Prunus), and willow (Salix). Females of this species grow to 11 to 14 millimeters in total length, while males are slightly smaller, reaching between 9 and 11 millimeters long.
