About Andinoacara rivulatus (Günther, 1860)

Andinoacara rivulatus, commonly known as the green terror, is a colorful freshwater fish belonging to the cichlid family. This species has also previously been classified under the scientific synonym Aequidens rivulatus. It is native to the Pacific coast of South America, ranging from the Tumbes River in Peru to the Esmeraldas River in Ecuador. This fish is polymorphic, meaning the edges of its tail and dorsal fins can be either white or gold-orange. Historically, it has been confused with two other closely related species, A. stalsbergi and A. blombergi. Both of these similar species always have narrow, clearly defined white fin edging; A. stalsbergi is distributed further to the south and is often called the "true" green terror, while A. blombergi is distributed further to the north.
