About Ancylis comptana (Frölich, 1828)
Ancylis comptana, commonly known as the strawberry leaf-roller or Comptan's ancylis moth, is a species of moth in the family Tortricidae. Its range extends from the United Kingdom and Scandinavia, south to northern Spain and east to Turkey, Asia Minor, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Russia, China, Mongolia, Korea and Japan. In North America, the species is represented by the subspecies Ancylis comptana fragariae. This moth has a wingspan of 11 to 14 mm. Adult moths are active in flight from April to June, and again from mid-July to September. In Europe, the species has two generations per year. In the northern United States, moths of the first generation fly from the end of March to April, and moths of the second generation fly in late May and June. In this region, there may be a third, or sometimes even a fourth generation, that fly in August, and from September to October. The larvae of Ancylis comptana feed on Sanguisorba minor, Potentilla, Fragaria, Teucrium, Rosa, Dryas octopetala, Rubus idaeus, Rubus icaesius and Thymus.
