About Ancula lentiginosa Farmer, 1964

Ancula lentiginosa is a species of goniodorid nudibranch. Its body is translucent white, marked with brown patches or stripes made of small brown spots interspersed with white pigment. The pre-rhinophoral papillae, rhinophore clubs, and gills have the same brown mottled pattern, and a line of brown spots runs along the ridge of its tail. It has two extra-branchial papillae that are translucent white, with a band of brown spots located below the tip of each papilla. This species was first described from specimens collected at La Jolla, California. Ancula lentiginosa feeds on Barentsia sp., a type of Entoprocta that commonly grows on hydroids, bryozoa, and other living substrates.
