About Anchiale austrotessulata Brock & Hasenpusch, 2007

Anchiale austrotessulata, commonly called the tessellated stick insect, ranges in color from brown to grey. Females reach approximately 150 mm (5.9 in) in total length, while males grow to around 120 mm (4.7 in). The species gets its common name from the black and white tessellated patterning on its wings. Females have short wings and cannot fly, whereas males have long wings and are capable of flight. This species produces very small eggs, which measure 3 millimetres (0.12 in) long. The eggs are shiny black and feature a distinct white capitulum.
