About Anax immaculifrons Rambur, 1842
Anax immaculifrons Rambur, 1842 is a large dragonfly that measures 80–86 mm (3.1–3.4 in) in length, with an approximate wingspan of 120 mm (4.7 in). Its body is overall bluish green, and it has sapphire-blue eyes. The thorax is pale bluish-green on its dorsal surface, has a blackish-brown mid-dorsal carina, and is turquoise-blue on the lateral sides. It has a narrow black stripe along the humeral suture, a very broad black stripe along the postero-lateral suture, and a narrow black posterior border on the metepimeron. The abdomen is pale reddish-brown marked with black. Segment 1 of the abdomen is completely black. Segment 2 is turquoise-blue, with a mid-dorsal transverse mark shaped like a sea-gull in flight. The basal half of segment 3 is turquoise-blue, and the apical half is black, with a small mid-dorsal spot on the blue portion. Segments 4 through 8 have a black apical half and pale reddish-brown base. Segments 9 and 10 are black on the dorsal surface. The wings are transparent with an amber-yellow tint. A more reddish population from southeast Asia and southern China was formerly classified as part of this species, but it was formally recognized as a separate species, Anax aurantiacus, in 2022.
