About Anasimyia contracta Claussen & Torp, 1980

Anasimyia contracta is a species first described by Claussen & Torp in 1980. Individuals of this species have a wing length between 5 and 7.5 mm. For this species, tergite 2 is longer than it is wide, and bears greyish markings shaped like a hockey stick. Similar markings are seen in the related species Anasimyia transfuga, but A. transfuga has parallel-sided tergite 2 that is wider than it is long. This species is distributed across the West Palearctic region, ranging from Ireland eastward through central Europe to European Russia.
