About Anampses caeruleopunctatus Rüppell, 1829
The blue-spotted wrasse, scientifically named Anampses caeruleopunctatus, is a species of wrasse. Its distribution ranges from the Atlantic coast of South Africa, through the Indian Ocean, to Japan and Australia, and extends eastward to Easter Island in the Pacific Ocean; it is not found in Hawaii. This species occurs at depths between 3 metres (9.8 feet) and 30 metres (98.4 feet). Adult blue-spotted wrasses prefer the surge zone of coral reefs or along rocky coastlines. Juveniles of this species orient their bodies and move in a pattern that mimics floating leaves. This species can grow to a total length of 42 centimetres (17 inches). It holds minor importance for local commercial fisheries, and is also available in the aquarium trade.
