About Anaea aidea (Guérin-Méneville, 1844)
Anaea aidea, commonly called the tropical leafwing, is a species of brush-footed butterfly that belongs to the family Nymphalidae and subfamily Charaxinae. This species is native to an area that stretches from Mexico to northwestern Costa Rica. Occasional stray individuals have been spotted in southern Texas, Arizona, and California in the United States. Some scientific authors classify Anaea aidea as a subspecies of Anaea troglodyta instead of a separate species. The wingspan of adult Anaea aidea ranges from 57–78 mm, or 2.2–3.1 inches. The larvae of this butterfly feed on plants from the Croton genus.
