About Anadara secticostata (Reeve, 1844)
Anadara secticostata, commonly called the cut-ribbed ark clam, is a white-colored saltwater clam belonging to the family Arcidae. This species occurs along the Atlantic coast of North America, with its range extending from North Carolina to Texas, and also includes the West Indies. The shell of Anadara secticostata reaches a maximum length of 100mm, and its outer periostracum layer is dark brown. It has a slightly inequivalve, oblong, and large shell shape. The shell has 30 to 38 curved radial ribs that grow wider toward the shell edges. These ribs have faint longitudinal incisions, which form longitudinal grooves between them.
