Amphisbaena fuliginosa Linnaeus, 1758 reaches a total combined length of its body and tail between 30 and 45 centimetres, which equals 12 to 18 inches. This species occurs across northern South America, including the island of Trinidad, and extends south into the Brazilian Cerrado biome. Within the Brazilian Cerrado, the southernmost localities where this species has been recorded are the states of Minas Gerais and Goiás. Its native habitat consists of Amazonian forest areas. Amphisbaena fuliginosa reproduces via oviparity, meaning it lays eggs.
