About Amphilophus citrinellus (Günther, 1864)

Amphilophus citrinellus, commonly known as the Midas cichlid, is a heavily built fish. In aquariums, it can successfully fight other similarly sized cichlids over territory. This species has powerful jaws, sharp teeth, and a size advantage over other fish species kept in aquariums. Because of these traits, the aggression of Midas cichlids should not be underestimated, and great care must be taken when choosing tank cohabitants for this species in an aquarium setting.
