About Ampelomyia viticola (Osten Sacken, 1862)

Ampelomyia viticola, commonly called the grape tube gallmaker, is a species of gall midge. This species produces green or bright red galls on New World grape vines. It is distributed across the eastern Nearctic realm, which includes eastern United States and Canada. Its type locality is the environs of Washington, DC. It has also been recorded in the Canadian province of Ontario. While there were old reports of this species being found in Japan, these records are currently recognized as misidentifications.
