About Amolops marmoratus (Blyth, 1855)
Amolops marmoratus is a relatively small species within the genus Amolops that displays distinct sexual size dimorphism. Males of this species reach a snout-vent length of 38โ48 mm (1.5โ1.9 inches), while females grow to 70โ79 mm (2.8โ3.1 inches). This species is only confirmed to be present in Myanmar, and is thought to also occur in northern Thailand; it may have a wider range beyond these areas. For example, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) used a broader, less strict definition of this species and reported that it can also be found in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, and Nepal. The IUCN assessed Amolops marmoratus as Least Concern in 2004, based on its reported wide distribution and presumed large population. However, the recognition that this group actually contains higher biodiversity means that its conservation status needs to be reassessed. Like other members of the genus Amolops, Amolops marmoratus inhabits areas near fast-flowing mountain streams.
