About Amegilla asserta (Cockerell, 1926)

Amegilla asserta (Cockerell, 1926) is a species of bee in the subfamily Apinae of the family Apidae, and it is endemic to Australia. Female individuals of this species forage through buzz pollination. This bee occurs in eastern Australia, ranging from Eyre Peninsula in South Australia, across the temperate regions of Victoria and New South Wales, and extending along the east coast of Queensland. Its distribution range covers the cities of Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. Of the two Amegilla species found in Melbourne, A. asserta is the more common one, with A. chlorocyanea being less common.
